i just finished working on this painting. it's a new favorite of mine (the first i've done in a while that hasn't been a commission)
available (without watermark)
i have to talk a bit about my fascination with lotus flowers:
a pristine, clean flower rises & blooms above the murky waters from which it lives (one of the reasons it is known as a symbol of enlightenment, rebirth, creation, awakening & purity in so many cultures & religions)
it also has the ability to regulate the temperature of its' flowers within a narrow range (about 86-95 degrees fahrenheit)...even when air temperatures go below 50! as the night air cools, petals take in more oxygen & give off more carbon dioxide - converting more carbohydrates to energy (just as a shivering animal would to stay warm)
this heat lures in heat-hungry pollinators like beetles. because of the warmth, the beetle is able to stay active through the cold night- rummaging & becoming fully coated in pollen by morning. the warm, energized beetle is able to take off (without having to wait for the sun's energy) and deposit the pollen it collected through the night.
